A Welding
Procedure solved the problems.
A Company contacted us because they were producing components which
were regularly failing radiographic examination.
We firstly checked that they were using the right process and doing
everything correctly.
On further examination it was noticeable that welders techniques,
parameters etc. varied and it was observed that some welders had more
success than others. Our suggestion was to carry out a welding procedure
test even though there was no requirement for this. This was successfully
done so a Welding Procedure Specification was raised for the welders
to follow and the failure rate dropped dramatically.
Changing the Specification solved the
problem.
A company were having problems with welds cracking between a casting
and low carbon steel component. On analysis of the casting it was
found to be almost unweldable. So we asked the company if it was necessary
to have the casting in this material. It turned out that it was not
necessary so the casting material was changed and the welds stopped
cracking.
